Durham Press would like to congratulate Polly Apfelbaum on her upcoming exhibition titled Double Nickels on the Dime at Michael Benevento. The show opens on September 23rd, at 7556 Sunset Blvd in Los Angeles, and closes on October, 29th. The opening reception is on Friday, September 23rd from 6-8pm. The solo exhibition features Polly’s Feelies and her floor installations. Roberta Smith wrote the following about Polly’s floor pieces and her Feelies: “Ms. Apfelbaum has as usual commandeered the floor but is also trying a new tack. Working in a manner reminiscent of the colored-glass technique of milles fleurs, she has fashioned small, smooth, brightly patterned panels she calls Feelies from contrasting shades of polymer and plasticine clay. There is a cuteness factor here, but it is quickly overruled by the blazing colors, assorted stripes, dots, checks, swirls and grids and abstract intelligence evident in the 200-plus examples.” (New York Times, July 16, 2010).
Polly has been making prints with Durham Press since 2002. In 2010 Polly created a new size, 32 x 68 inches, that she calls “Alley”- images of Wave Alley Black, Love Alley and Love Alley Black are below.
